Verizon has announced the expansion of its Hyper Precision Location (HPL) service to cover over 100 major US markets.
HPL is a SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) offering that boosts the accuracy of location data from metres to centimetres—delivering GNSS correction data in real-time and at scale.
TJ Fox, SVP of Industrial IoT and Automotive at Verizon Business, said:
“Hyper Precise Location stands to boost or enable next-gen technologies across industries, from intelligent-driving to drone delivery to highly automated operations within construction, agriculture, and much more.
HPL’s fast-expanding coverage area, API friendliness, privacy protection, and use of open-delivery standards make it ideal for developers and customers demanding precision and flexibility.”
The open delivery standards supported by HPL includes RTCM for data streams. Users on both 4G and 5G networks can benefit from the HPL service.
Almost 31 billion IoT devices are projected to be online globally by 2025, with an increasing number requiring precise location services—especially for industries such as automotive, construction, and agriculture.
IoT devices using HPL can be accessed and managed through a user API and the ThingSpace IoT management platform.
By combining technologies including HPL, 5G Edge, and C-V2X, Verizon recently demonstrated vehicle-pedestrian safety scenarios that will be vital in the rollout of autonomous cars to build public and regulatory trust.
Verizon says it’s working alongside mapping specialist HERE and automotive software expert Renovo to develop next-gen road safety and advanced driving solutions which harness the power of HPL.
HPL is available through Verizon ThingSpace.
