Sensolus and Deutsche Telekom launch IoT asset tracking

Belgian IIoT firm Sensolus has partnered with German telecoms giant Deutsche Telekom to launch a powerful asset tracking solution.

“Asset tracking and management can only ever be as good as the network that enables data transmission,” explains Johan Criel, Co-Founder and CTO at Sensolus. “It is important to find a network provider who knows the specific requirements of IoT applications and offers suitable network services.”

“We are very pleased that Deutsche...

Cellular LPWAN to generate $2.3B in recurring revenue by 2027

Kaleido Intelligence forecasts that cellular LPWAN will generate $2.3 billion in recurring connectivity revenue by 2027.

The figure represents an over twofold increase from the under $900 million set to be generated from cellular LPWAN connectivity in 2022.

“LPWAN has a delicate balancing act to maintain. Data-based monetisation has been shown to be uneconomical for network operators,” says James Moar, Principal Analyst at Kaleido Intelligence.

Public LoRaWAN networks grow by 66% over three years

The LoRa Alliance has announced that public LoRaWAN networks have grown by 66 percent over the past three years.

LoRaWAN is an open standard for IoT low-power wide-area networks (LPWANs). The LoRa Alliance has more than 500 members – including the likes of IBM, Cisco, HP, Foxconn, Semtech, Bosch, and Schneider – and has promoted the expansion of the LoRaWAN ecosystem since 2015.

Deployments of LPWAN networks have been traditionally driven by mobile network operators....

The cellular IoT market will exceed $61B by 2026

Juniper Research predicts the value of the global cellular IoT market will exceed $61 billion by 2026.

The value of the global cellular IoT market in 2022 is $31 billion. If the researchers’ projections are correct, it means a 95 percent value growth over just four years.

Growth will be driven by the rollout of 5G and cellular LPWA (Low-Power Wide-Area) technologies.

Charles Bowman, a co-author of the research, said:

“Operators must educate users...

Sigfox enters insolvency proceedings following difficulties

Sigfox has entered insolvency proceedings following difficulties mostly beyond the IoT network operator’s control.

In a statement to French daily newspaper Le Figaro, that we’ve loosely translated, Sigfox wrote:

“Toulouse Commercial Court has opened today, at the request of the CEO, a judicial reorganization procedure for the benefit of Sigfox and its subsidiary Sigfox France SAS (operator in France), with an initial observation period of six...

ABI Research: 4G is still the go-to for IoT connectivity

A study conducted by ABI Research finds that 4G is still the go-to solution for IoT connectivity.

The new year hasn’t brought with it a new dominant IoT connectivity standard. ABI Research monitored the activities of 1,037 IoT models across 52 module vendors and found competing standards have some way to go to catch up to 4G.

4G accounts for over 60 percent of cellular modules—spanning both high bandwidth CAT12 to CAT20, and high bandwidth CAT1 to CAT4. 5G represents...

Amazon launches Sidewalk Bridge Pro to extend its network into public spaces

Amazon is extending its low-bandwidth, long-distance network to public spaces with the launch of the Sidewalk Bridge Pro.

The bridge is designed to extend Sidewalk connectivity to spaces including parks, businesses, and universities where there aren’t likely to be many Ring and Echo devices helping to power Amazon’s mesh network.

Amazon made a big deal out of Sidewalk when it debuted in 2019 alongside the Fetch pet tracker developed by Tile. In May 2021, Tile...

As we begin wrapping up the year, it’s time to predict what the IoT industry will look like in 2022.

Seamlessly connected homes

“The US market has seen substantial year-over-year growth in the number of connected homes, and this is expected to continue in the years to come,” analysts from McKinsey said in a recent report.

“However, we're still far from the vision of seamlessly connected homes.”

The emergence of Thread as a widely-backed...
